Tel Aviv’s attempt to stop broadcasting Al Jazeera.
According to the Palestine Information Center, Shlomo Karai, the Minister of Communications of the Zionist regime, announced that the Netanyahu government will take the necessary measures to prevent the broadcasting of the Qatari channel Al Jazeera in the occupied territories.
This issue has been raised in the National Security Committee of the Knesset. A committee has been held regarding the draft of the law prohibiting the broadcast of any foreign media harmful to the security of the Zionist regime.
On February 12, the Prime Minister of the Zionist regime agreed to the draft law known as the “Draft Al-Jazeera Law” and before that, the Knesset approved it in the first reading.
The meetings held in the National Security Committee are necessary to review and prepare the draft of this law for the second and third readings in the Knesset and to make it an enforceable law.
The Knesset announced in a statement: The draft of this law is considered to strengthen the powers of the Minister of Communications based on the bills foreseen for emergencies, including banning the broadcasting of foreign networks that are harmful to national security.
In the continuation of this statement, it is stated: This proposed plan emphasizes that the powers of this law will continue for 3 months or until the end of the declaration of a state of emergency on the domestic front.
In another part of this statement, it is stated: The powers granted to the Minister of Communications based on this law include issuing the necessary orders to prevent the broadcasting of foreign networks inside Israel and blocking the websites of these networks.
According to this new law, the Minister of Communications can apply the restrictions specified in the law without the need for the approval of security institutions and the Minister of War of the Zionist regime.
In this regard, Karai said: We succeeded in changing the emergency laws in an unprecedented way and we used it to block the Al-Mayadeen network on November 13. We will also take the necessary measures to stop the broadcasting of Al Jazeera.
