Tel Aviv’s double game on the land of the Syrian Druze: Thief’s friend and caravan partner!
While the Israeli regime has launched airstrikes in the Druze-populated area of Sahnaya on the outskirts of Damascus under the pretext of supporting the Druze, and in its statements claims a commitment to defend members of the Druze community in Sweida, Jabal al-Arab, Jaramana, and other Druze-populated areas of Syria, there is a great paradox in the policies of this regime. Tel Aviv wants to present itself as the guarantor of the security of the Druze-populated areas of Syria at a time when the majority of the country’s Druze publicly reject Israeli intervention and emphasize their adherence to their Arab and Syrian identity.
This contradiction deepens when considering the special characteristics of the Druze in the occupied Golan Heights; Where, despite the passage of more than 5 decades since the occupation of this region by the Zionists in 1967, the Druze of the Golan continue to refuse to accept the “citizenship of the fake Israeli regime” and, despite the extensive efforts of the Zionist regime to forcibly integrate them into the society of this regime, they continue to adhere to their Syrian and Arab identity.
The dangerous project of the Zionist regime in Syria
It is clear that no one, not even the partners of the Zionist regime, believes the humanitarian claims of this regime to support the Druze of Syria, and everyone knows that Israel is pursuing a plan to consolidate the occupation in the territory of Syria and divide this country. The Druze-populated areas in southern Syria, especially Sweida, are a large part of the scene of this operation of the occupying regime to expand its influence deep into Syria by using minorities and security gaps.
Among the projects proposed in the security and political circles of the Zionist regime for further penetration into Syria is a project called “David’s Crossing”; A project that extends from the occupied Golan Heights in the south to the provinces of Sweida and Daraa and then connects to the Kurdish-dominated areas in northern Syria. This crossing forms a strategic strip that separates Syria from Lebanon and its security objective is to create a buffer zone with the claim of protecting minorities, especially the Druze.
In fact, the Zionist regime wants to cut off Syria from any reconnection with the axis of resistance, geographically and strategically, with this crossing. However, the importance of this corridor is not limited to the security level; the Zionists also pursue other goals from the David Crossing project.
The Zionist regime seeks to introduce itself as a pivotal player in the region by connecting the Eastern Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf and participating in gas transportation projects and land trade through Jordan, Iraq, and Türkiye. This is achieved by connecting the Mediterranean ports of occupied Palestine, namely Haifa and Ashdod, with land crossings through Jordan and Iraq to the Persian Gulf on the one hand, and with Turkish territory as a passage to Europe and Central Asia on the other.
Accordingly, the David Crossing is not simply a security belt; it is a strategic infrastructure that enables Israel to become a link in the energy systems of the region.
It is noteworthy that the Zionist regime is not content with promoting the David Crossing project as a strategic benefit for itself, but is trying to portray it as a moral project, thus justifying its military intervention in Syria, especially in the Druze-populated areas, by claiming to protect minorities from the aggressions and repressions of the new government of this country.
The Zionists’ Crocodile Tears for the Druze of Syria
No one can believe the Zionist regime’s humanitarian claims, and the Syrians will not forget that when the terrorist-takfiri group Jabhat al-Nusra, now known as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and led by the same Golani, attacked the Druze villages in Jabal al-Summaq and Sweida, Tel Aviv provided medical and logistical support to this terrorist group and sent bags of dollars to the terrorists.
This same dual policy of the Zionist regime sparked a wave of anger in the Druze community in the occupied Golan Heights, leading to many violent protests against the Zionists and people attacking Israeli ambulances that were transporting wounded terrorists from Jabhat al-Nusra to the hospital.
Thus, the contradiction in the Zionist regime’s narrative becomes completely apparent; Where the regime collaborated with terrorists to massacre the Druze during the terrorist crisis in Syria and today claims to support the Syrian Druze community. Obviously, all this is due to greater economic and geopolitical interests that the occupying regime is trying to present in the context of a moral obligation towards threatened minorities.
The Zionist regime’s policy towards the Druze of Syria can only be seen as part of a broader strategy to re-engineer the region based on the dismemberment of countries and the creation of autonomous states dependent on Tel Aviv. In the meantime, the only option for Syria is for its true national forces to take the initiative and create a comprehensive national project to save their country from dismemberment and other dangerous projects of the Zionist regime and its partners.
