PNN – In an article, the Telegraph newspaper announced the intention of England to build and deploy domestic hypersonic missiles by 2030 with the aim of competing with America, China and Russia.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network from this British newspaper, the commanders of the British army are looking for a weapon that can reach a speed of more than Mach five.
The British Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the design and manufacture of these weapons should be done completely in Britain and be deployed in this country by the end of 2030.
It is said that the budget of this project has been prioritized by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as one of the goals of increasing the defense budget by 75 billion pounds over the next 6 years.
It is said that no decision has been made so far about launching these types of missiles from land, sea or air. But one option is a weapon that can be deployed on fighters such as the Typhoon or the F-35, which has a shorter range and less weight than larger ground-launched weapons.
At the same time, some knowledgeable sources involved in this plan have found it difficult to build the aforementioned missiles; Because it is said that some materials needed to make these weapons do not exist yet and must be made first to withstand the high temperatures caused by supersonic speeds.
The British Ministry of Defense has refused to comment on the exact details of this program, citing the country’s security concerns, but a spokesperson for the institution said: We are pursuing ultrasonic technologies to further develop UK’s advanced and independent capabilities. We continue to invest in our equipment to meet current and future threats.

The Telegraph further noted: Since most British missile projects have always been carried out in partnership with a foreign ally, the current plan to build supersonic cruise missiles seems unusual.
Operating at much faster speeds than standard cruise missiles, hypersonic missiles are capable of evading enemy air defenses at speeds in excess of four thousand miles (6,437 km) per hour and maneuvering in mid-flight.
Previously, the United States has successfully tested a hypersonic cruise missile and has considered this action to be vital along with Russian and Chinese missile technology.
US President Joe Biden also said in a statement that Russian hypersonic missiles targeting Ukrainian cities are unstoppable.
The newspaper mentioned in another part: Britain and the United States currently have ballistic missiles that are used in their nuclear submarines and can travel at a speed of more than Mach 20, but they are easier to shoot down because of their tracking.
England has announced that it is able to invest up to one billion pounds in the project to build hypersonic missiles, but knowledgeable sources have stated that if necessary, these missiles can be purchased from the United States.
The current race over hypersonic missiles, which according to some experts is similar to the start of the Cold War arms race in the 1950s, has sparked discussions about the high costs of building and deploying these missiles.
James Black, assistant director of defense research at the RAND think tank, said in this regard: “Although hypersonic missiles have military advantages, it may be better to spend the money on existing technologies.”
