PNN – Following increasing pressure from Washington regarding the management of the next phase in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Prime Minister on Thursday announced the convening of a political–security cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, Benjamin Netanyahu posted on the social media platform X: “Today, I held a political–security cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.”
Although the Prime Minister’s office did not provide details, Hebrew media outlets, including the official Kan network and the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, reported that the meeting took place in a tense atmosphere amid U.S. pressure to define the administration framework for Gaza after the war.
The Hebrew-language outlet Walla reported that the U.S. has requested Tel Aviv to take responsibility for the extensive debris removal in Gaza and cover the costs, which could reach billions of dollars, as Arab countries have declined to finance the process.
Kan network also indicated that the meeting’s atmosphere was tense, with disagreements among cabinet members on how to respond to U.S. demands and outline Gaza’s future.
On November 18, the UN Security Council adopted an American-backed resolution to end the war in Gaza and establish a temporary international force until the end of 2027.
Under this plan, the administration of Gaza would be entrusted to a Palestinian technocratic transitional government operating under the supervision of a “Peace Council” led by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the Trump plan, which began on October 10, the first phase involved a ceasefire and prisoner exchanges between Israel and Palestinian groups. The second phase includes the formation of the technocratic transitional government and the implementation of an economic program for Gaza’s reconstruction.
The destructive Israeli war against Gaza, which began on October 8, 2023, and lasted two years, resulted in over 70,000 Palestinian deaths and 171,000 injuries, the majority being women and children.
Despite the ceasefire agreement, the occupying regime continues to violate it, causing hundreds more Palestinian casualties.
