The American government shutdown alarm sounded

Pak Sahafat – With the rejection of the US federal government budget bill by congressional Republicans, the danger of a government shutdown is imminent.

According to the report of Pak Sahafat International News Agency, the Republicans of the US House of Representatives rejected the budget bill proposed by Kevin McCarthy, the President of the Congress, so that the US government is one step closer to the shutdown.

According to the report, the risk of a federal government shutdown is imminent due to deep divisions among congressional Republicans over Kevin McCarthy’s proposed budget bill, and the October 1st deadline for passage of the bill approaching.

The US Congress did not approve the proposed temporary budget bill by 232 votes to 198, sounding the government shutdown alarm louder.

Republicans in Congress want to cut $120 billion in government funding for the new fiscal year and impose tougher immigration laws, priorities for Republicans that have little chance of passage in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Accordingly, the Republicans against the budget bill have no clear strategy to avoid a government shutdown and there are currently no other options for the budget, and therefore it is not clear how long the shutdown will last if the federal government shuts down starting tomorrow.

In addition, about 4 million federal employees have received an email asking them to stay off the job starting Monday and not receive pay for critical workers if Congress does not pass the budget bill.

Kevin McCarthy said after the vote that Congress may still pass a budget bill that displeases Democrats without implementing conservative policies. But he did not say anything about what will happen from now on. Meanwhile, it is expected that other votes will be held today.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen also said: The government shutdown has affected the economic plan of the government and caused the loss of programs intended for small industries and children and can delay the improvement of the main and vital infrastructure.

Republicans in Congress, who hold the majority of the House, are only looking to pass the budget bill they support, which is unlikely to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate.

As the rift between the two houses continues, the federal government looks set to enter its fourth shutdown in a decade starting tomorrow, October 1st.

US President Joe Biden announced that Republicans must stick to the budget agreement to avoid a government shutdown.

The President of the United States of America stated that his administration and Congress President Kevin McCarthy reached an agreement in May to allocate funds for domestic and national security and reduce the budget deficit of more than one trillion dollars over the next 10 years.

At the same time, some Republicans want to reduce this figure by 120 billion dollars more for the new fiscal year. This request could affect numerous government programs from education and environmental protection to the enforcement of tax laws and medical research.

Now, a small group of extreme Republicans don’t want to stick to the deal, Biden noted, and their insistence could harm food security, medical research and children’s programs and could lead to a government shutdown.

A few days ago, Biden and one of his senior advisers warned that with a possible government shutdown, the risk of starvation threatens about 7 million low-income women and children.

White House spokesperson Karin Jean-Pierre stated that Republicans in Congress should join the Senate to approve this bill and stop playing political games with people’s lives and stick to the bipartisan agreement concluded in May.

Meanwhile, as the deadline for a budget bill in the US Congress looms and a government shutdown threatens, many government services across the country will be disrupted and hundreds of thousands of federal employees will be sent on unpaid leave.

It should be mentioned that since 1981, Congress has shut down the government 14 times, although most of these shutdowns lasted only one or two days.
