PNN – While admitting the existence of institutionalized racism in this organization, Gavin Stevens, head of the British Police Chiefs Organization (NPCC), called for a review of national policies and practices to resolve this challenge.
According to Pakistan News Network’s report from the Guardian newspaper, Stevens, as the first high-ranking official of this institution, accepted racial discrimination in the police of this country.
This newspaper added: The head of the British Police Chiefs Organization (NPCC), while acknowledging this issue, called for a fundamental review of national policies and practices to eliminate discrimination.
In an interview with the Guardian, he stated that little progress has been made to eliminate discrimination in the British police, and said that blacks in this country should no longer face inappropriate use of force.

Stevens continued: It is the responsibility of police leadership to explain to them what [institutional racism] does and does not mean. Also, the way our policies, procedures, and training have been implemented over the past many years has been without considering the voice of black people.
The comments of this senior police officer come as the British police continue to grapple with the issue of whether or not to accept institutionalized racial discrimination; An issue that has been raised for at least 30 years.
After the murder of George Floyd, a black man who died under the knees of a Minneapolis police officer, and the creation of the “Black Lives Matter” movement in 2020, this institution in England promised reforms; But critics say that the British police have not done anything in this regard.
According to available reports, British police stop and search seven times more black people than white people, and this racial group is five times more likely to be subjected to the use of force by police officers.
