The catastrophic effects of the Zionist regime’s war on Lebanese children

The catastrophic effects of the Zionist regime’s war on Lebanese children.

According to the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, UNICEF issued an alarming report, citing the worrying situation of children’s nutrition in Lebanon and their psychological conditions after the Israeli attack, especially in the Baalbek Hermel region.

The report states that the Israeli war against Lebanon has caused catastrophic damage to the lives of children in the country and has caused them physical and psychological problems. According to the report, 51 percent of children under two years old in the Baalbek Hermel region suffer from severe food poverty.

The report of this United Nations-affiliated organization emphasizes that the rate of severe food poverty among children in the Bekaa region is 45 percent this year, compared to only 28 percent last year. According to this assessment, 49 percent of children under 18 in the Bekaa region and 34 percent of these people in Baalbek Hermel can access one meal a day.

UNICEF also pointed to the crisis caused by the war on the education sector in Lebanon, stressing that as a result of this war, many schools have been destroyed and other schools have been severely damaged. Some schools have also become centers for displaced people. According to the report, more than 500,000 children have left school over the years due to the economic crisis, teachers’ strikes and the effects of the Covid-19 virus.

According to a survey conducted by the organization in January, 72 percent of respondents said that their children were experiencing severe anxiety or stress due to the war. Also, 62 percent reported that children were extremely sad or depressed. UNICEF emphasized that the figures have increased significantly compared to the figures recorded before the war in 2023.
