PNN – Massive protests against extreme rightists and in support of democracy were held today in many German cities and states.
According to the report of the International group of Pakistan News Network, quoted by the German “De Site” magazine, in many German cities, German people demonstrated again in support of democracy and against the extreme right. This could create a long-term movement, a protesting researcher said.
For several weeks, German people have been taking to the streets to protest against right-wing extremism. Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in several cities on Saturday. Several demonstrations were also held this Sunday. According to the police, around 16,500 people demonstrated in Bremen. Other demonstrations were recorded in other cities such as Lübeck and Magdeburg.
Also yesterday, according to police reports, more than 150,000 people gathered in front of the Reichstag building in Berlin to demonstrate for democracy and against the right-wing, hate and extremist Alternative for Germany party. The organizer of these protests was an alliance called Hand in Hand consisting of 300 thousand participants. It was not only in the capital that many people took to the streets: in Dresden, organizers said, 30,000 people marched under the slogan “We are the wall of fire”. The police did not provide specific and precise information about the number of participants. According to police, around 30,000 people gathered in Freiburg, around 25,000 in Augsburg and around 10,000 in Krefeld.

According to “Tareq Siddiq”, a protest researcher, the numerous demonstrations of the past few weeks can lead to a long-term protest movement. Siddiq works at the Center for Conflict Research at Philips University Marburg. According to him, although there is no specific goal yet, the demonstrators can claim success.
Olaf Schultz, the chancellor of Germany, also described the numerous demonstrations on Platform X as a “strong sign” of support for democracy and the constitution.
Karl Lauterbach shared a photo of the protests in Berlin on X, showing him alongside Social Democratic Party leader and fellow party member Saskia Scan and European Parliament vice-president Katarina Barley. Lauterbach wrote: “The large demonstration against the right wing in front of the Reichstag is a clear sign. “The vast majority of people do not want to let the extreme Alternative for Germany and quasi-Nazi party destroy democracy and prosperity,” the post said. It’s a real danger.”
The results of a survey show that the majority of citizens in Germany welcome anti-rightist demonstrations. 55 percent supported these protests in the INSA survey for Bild am Sonntag. However, 26% reject it – 12% don’t care about the protests.
The survey also asked participants whether democracy in Germany is at risk. 61 percent of those surveyed see it this way, but a third of those surveyed do not classify German democracy as being at risk.
On Monday, German people want to come to the streets again against the right wing. In Frankfurt am Main, 7,000 participants are expected to take part in a demonstration under the slogan “Frankfurt stands for democracy”. More marches in other regions and states of Germany are planned for this day.
