Netanyahu also does everything he can to stay in power, and this means prolonging Israel’s war in Gaza and extending its aggression to Lebanon, Yemen, and even Iran. Such discretion has wreaked havoc in the Middle East and directly harmed US foreign policy in the region.
Since the first administration of Barack Obama, America has sought to reduce its commitments in the Middle East region and focus on China and Russia.
But when Biden pledged unconditional support to Israel after the October 7 attack by Hamas, America’s withdrawal from the Middle East was halted for an indefinite period. Washington has increased its military presence in the region and has spent more than 22 billion dollars in military aid to the Israeli army and its military operations in support of it. This unconditional commitment to Israel undermines America’s long-term strategy of focusing on Russia and China and allocating more military aid to Taiwan, Ukraine, South Korea, and Japan.
