The spokesperson of the US Ministry of Defense said: The number of these additional temporary forces has varied over the past several years based on mission needs, but has generally increased over time as threats to permanent forces have increased.
A Pentagon spokesman previously said Washington has approximately 2,000 troops in Syria, not the 900 previously reported.
According to the Pentagon, 900 troops are permanent troops, while 1,100 troops are deployed to Syria for temporary capability in support of force protection, transportation, maintenance, or other operational needs.
