The dismissal of Israeli army officials and the collapse of the illusion of victory in the 12-Day War.
A few days ago, the Israeli media reported a change in the first level of command of the Israeli army. This change was made in the first seven ranks of the Israeli regime’s command.
The changes, including the dismissal of seven Israeli army commanders by Eyal Zamir, the chief of the army’s general staff, were made with the approval of Israel’s Minister of War, Yisrael Katz. At the same time, Benjamin Netanyahu also dismissed the commander of the air defense. These changes are occurring at a time when the Israeli regime is boasting of victory in the war, with the seasoning of achieving its goals and intercepting the majority of Iranian missiles.
Dismissal under the guise of promotion
The Israeli media, by hiding the reasons for the “dismissals” of the first levels of the Israeli military, announced promotions in seemingly positive terms in the Israeli General Staff and the Israeli army. These media outlets wrote that the changes were made by Eyal Zamir, the chief of the Joint Staff, but were also approved by Defense Minister Yisrael Katz before being announced.
The removal of the commander of the northern army
The most important change was the removal of Uri Gordin, the commander of the northern front with the rank of major general, and the appointment of Raffi Milo with the same rank in his place. Milo—who had been the commander of the Israeli home front since 2022—was reprimanded in 2019 for ordering an unauthorized patrol of one of the Hezbollah tunnels on the Lebanese border, and his promotion has been postponed.
More importantly, Gordin has not been appointed to a new position and is said to be likely to take a leave of absence from the army for university studies. He is said to be the choice for deputy chief of staff and will compete for that position for another 4 years.
Similarly, Shai Clapper, with the rank of brigadier general, was appointed to the post of commander of the home front instead of Milo. With this appointment, he was promoted to the rank of major general. Clapper is the former commander of the 91st “Jalil” Regional Division, which was responsible for part of the border area with Lebanon between 2022 and 2025.
Command of the Deep Corps
Another change that was made is the replacement of “Dan Goldfuss,” with the rank of major general, instead of “Nimrod Aloni,” with the same military rank, as the commander of a division called the “Deep Corps.” The unit called the “Deep Corps” is a multidisciplinary and secretive unit that is responsible for cross-border military operations in the Israeli army.
“Goldfuss” currently commands the Northern Corps. He was appointed to that position in May 2024 after commanding the 98th Division in the midst of the Gaza War.
He was severely reprimanded by “Herzi Halevi,” the former chief of the army’s joint staff, during the war in Gaza for giving interviews against Israeli political officials, and now receives his second promotion amid the war. He was also responsible for joint maneuvers in the ground forces, which were closed in late 2024.
With this change, Brigadier General Yaki Dolph, who commanded the West Bank Division, replaced Goldfos as the next head of the Northern Corps. He was appointed to this position despite being reprimanded in recent years for the deaths of two soldiers in two separate incidents.
