The draft of the American resolution for a 6-week ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Diplomatic sources told Al Jazeera television that the United States has circulated a draft resolution to the Security Council supporting a six-week ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
These sources added that the American draft resolution demanded the release of all Israeli prisoners detained in the Gaza Strip after the agreement of all parties.
The release of this news, which has not yet been officially confirmed, comes as the United States vetoed a draft resolution proposed by Algeria in a meeting on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, which called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire that must be respected by all parties.
This resolution won 13 positive votes of the 15-member Security Council, but the United States opposed it, causing it not to be approved or the same veto of the resolution. England, another member of the Security Council, also abstained from that vote.
This was the third time that the resolution proposed to establish a ceasefire in Gaza was vetoed by the US.
