The end of the military partnership between Niger and the European Union.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Niger announced that the military government ruling this country has canceled a military agreement with the European Union and ended the military partnership with this union.

Niger’s military government announced on Monday that it has canceled a military partnership agreement with the European Union and its authorization of an EU program to strengthen the country’s military.

According to “Reuters” news agency, the authorities of Niger have announced that they will end the work of two EU defense and security delegations in the country after they agreed with Russia on strengthening military cooperation early Monday.

Niger’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that one of these delegations, called “UCAP Niger Coast”, is the result of a previous agreement with the European Union to strengthen capacities and is based in the city of Niamey.

Established in 2012, the team supported Niger’s internal security forces, authorities and non-governmental actors.

Niger’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote in a press release: “The government of Niger withdraws its consent to the deployment of the European Union Military Partnership Mission.”

The website of the Council of the European Union wrote that this military partnership team under the title of “EUMPM” team was established in February “at the request of the Nigerian authorities”.

This website claims that the purpose of forming this committee is to “strengthen the ability of the armed forces of Niger to contain the terrorist threat.”

Niger has been under the control of military rulers since the country’s ousted president, Mohamed Bazoum, was ousted by the military in July.
