The European Union agreed to send 50 billion euros of aid to Ukraine.
The head of the European Council announced the consensus of the European Union regarding the allocation of 50 billion euros in financial aid to Ukraine.
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, announced today (Thursday) that the European Union finally reached a consensus on sending 50 billion euros of financial aid to Ukraine.
Agence France-Presse reported Michel wrote on the social page “X” (former Twitter) in this regard: “We reached an agreement. “Etihad”.
While Hungary was one of the main opponents of allocating billions of funds to Ukraine, the head of the European Council stated: “All 27 leaders agreed on the support package of 50 billion euros for Ukraine within the framework of the EU budget.”
The agreement to send billions of funds to Ukraine is in a situation where the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, emphasized that the European Union should not weaken the EU’s budget and deprive it of resources with its decisions to send aid to Ukraine.
Regarding the new agreement of all 27 EU member states, Charles Michel said that according to the new agreement, a “fixed, long-term, and predictable budget for Ukraine” will be allocated.
The President of the European Council announced this news right before the meeting of the European Union leaders and said: “The European Union takes the leadership and responsibility in supporting Ukraine.” We know what is at stake.”
It is not yet clear whether Hungary has received concessions to agree to the EU plan.
In December, 26 other EU countries agreed to a 50-billion-euro aid package for Ukraine for the current year to 2027 and also agreed to nominate Kyiv for EU membership, which Orban has been reluctant to do.
