The European Union reacted to the trial of civilians in Pakistan’s military court

PNN – In response to the recent verdict of Pakistan’s military court against 25 civilians for rioting and violation of security laws, the European Union considered it contrary to the International Covenant on Civil Rights, while Islamabad has repeatedly warned Western countries against any stance and interference in Pakistan’s internal developments.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the official website of the European Union, quoting its spokesperson, wrote that the European Union expressed concern over the trial of 25 civilians in Pakistan’s military courts.

This reaction is further stated: These sentences are considered contrary to the arrangements that Pakistan has committed to under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

The spokesperson of the European Union added: According to Article 14 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights of Human Rights, every person has the right to a fair and public trial in an independent, impartial and reliable court. It also stipulates that any sentence issued in a criminal case must be made public.

The serial stance of European countries as well as the United States on Pakistan’s internal developments has repeatedly provoked the reactions of the country’s authorities, and recently the members of the Pakistani parliament have also condemned the action of the American Congress for commenting against the country’s electoral and political mechanisms.

Last Saturday, the Pakistan Army announced that the military court of this country sentenced 25 of the defendants in the “May 9” case to a total of 183 years in prison for the crime of violating security and attacking army centers (the case of riots related to Imran Khan’s supporters’ protests).

The public relations statement of the Pakistan Army stated that the trial process of these people was done transparently and based on undeniable evidence, and all the accused will have the full right to appeal or challenge these verdicts.
