The first phase of Saudi Arabia’s Al-Jafurah mega project is complete.
The Saudi Ministry of Finance announced that the first phase of Saudi Aramco’s Al Jafurah gas plant has been completed and production has begun at a capacity of 450 million cubic feet per day, according to Al Jazeera.
In its statement on the 2026 budget, the ministry described the implementation of the first phase of the project as one of its achievements in 2025.
Al Jafurah is likely to be the largest shale gas project outside the United States and is expected to reach sustainable production of 2 billion cubic feet per day by 2030.
Aramco CEO Amin Al Nasser said that the first phase of the project would be completed by the end of this year on schedule.
Last month, Amin Al Nasser described the Al Jafurah project as the crown jewel of Aramco’s portfolio.
Earlier this year, Aramco raised $11 billion through a lease-and-leaseback agreement for the Al Jafurah gas processing plant with a consortium led by the US firm Global Infrastructure Partners, an affiliate of financial giant BlackRock.
The $100 billion Al-Jafourah project, with estimated crude reserves of 229 trillion standard cubic feet, is the centerpiece of Aramco’s ambitions to become a major global player in the natural gas sector and increase its production capacity.
Aramco’s profit fell 2.3 percent in the third quarter of this year due to lower crude and oil product prices, but performance improved compared to the previous quarter as production increased.
