The flotilla’s move breaks the siege of Gaza; Tunisia is in the spotlight.

The Global Fleet to Break the Siege of Gaza has become one of the most important areas of media and public attention these days; a grassroots movement whose main goal is to break the siege of the Gaza Strip and deliver humanitarian aid to the residents of this region.

This fleet, which consists of dozens of ships and hundreds of human rights activists from more than 40 countries, resumed its movement after a few days of stopping in the “Port of Bizerte, Tunisia” to join ships from Italy, Greece, and Spain in international waters.

The enthusiastic welcome of the Tunisian people and other citizens who came to welcome the movement holding the flags of Palestine and their country shows the regional solidarity with the people of Gaza.

The movement of this fleet has been accompanied by serious challenges. One of its main vessels was targeted by a drone attack a few days ago in the “Port of Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia” and caught fire; an incident that fortunately did not result in casualties, but has increased concerns about the security of the continuation of the route.

The attack was met with a strong public reaction and Tunisian citizens gathered in the port, who demanded more support for the convoy. Some activists have identified the Israeli regime as responsible for the attack, although no official response has been published from Tel Aviv so far, and Tunisian officials have called for a detailed and official investigation of the incident.

This event has doubled the importance of the security challenges facing the fleet. The threat of drone attacks, the risk of detention or aggression along the sea route, as well as diplomatic pressure on the host countries, are among the most important obstacles that the convoy faces.
