The former chancellor of Austria has been sentenced to 8 months of suspended imprisonment.
According to Al Jazeera, a court in the city of Vienna sentenced the former Chancellor of Austria, “Sebastian Kurtz” to 8 months of suspended imprisonment for the crime of perjury.
The process of this trial lasted 4 months. This case is related to Kurtz’s testimony before a parliamentary committee in 2020 and 2021, where he presented about his appointments in OBAG Holding.
After Austrian prosecutors investigated Kurtz and nine others on charges of corruption, bribery, and breach of trust in 2021, Kurtz stepped down.
“I consider this part of the sentence very unfair,” Kurtz said after the court’s verdict. “We have appealed and I am very optimistic that we will get a ruling in our favor at the second stage.”
