The frustration of human rights advocates over the erosive process of police reform in America

PNN – “Reuters” news agency in an analysis referring to the slow process of reforming the police society and reducing the violence of its forces in America, described the efforts of President Joe Biden’s government to carry out extensive reforms in this field as “unsuccessful”.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from this news agency, four years have passed since the death of George Floyd, the black man who lost his life due to American police brutality and sparked the “Black Lives Matter” movement, the process of reforming the country’s police structure is still facing many challenges.

This report added: During this time, efforts to make changes in the harsh structure of the American police have decreased and legal efforts have stopped. This process has disappointed human rights defenders and anti-racism activists. Despite an initial wave of calls to change America’s harsh police structure, the federal government’s efforts to enact sweeping reforms have been largely unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of Donald Trump’s campaign, the former President of the United States, recently announced that he will take a strict approach to immigration and violent crimes and will restore law and order if he is re-elected.

Biden: Iran’s huge drone and missile attack on Israel was devastating

Reuters wrote: The George Floyd Justice for Police Act – originally introduced in 2021 to stop aggressive tactics, misconduct and racial bias – has faced repeated obstacles in the US Congress and has yet to make progress. Efforts to reach a cross-party agreement to reform police structures that year also failed, and Biden blamed Republicans for the failure.

Experts say that while efforts to reform criminal justice have fueled previous US election cycles to some extent, it is unlikely that the 2024 presidential election will be shaped around the issue of “police”.

Jorge Camacho, policy director of the Department of Justice at Yale Law School, said: Other issues such as the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the conflict in Ukraine, and economic issues have been raised in this period. However, this may be one of the reasons why Biden has weaker support among black voters, and black communities want to see more police reform.
