The heads of Germany and France emphasize European unity against Trump

PNN – Following the victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential elections, the leaders of France and Germany called for European unity against him.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Reuters, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Schultz on Wednesday congratulated Trump on his victory, but immediately emphasized unity in the face of challenges posed by the president-elect’s policies on trade and US isolationism.

In an interview with reporters, Olaf said: EU members should get closer to each other and act in a united manner.

The German chancellor also added that he and Macron will closely coordinate their actions with other EU members.

Macron also wrote in a message on X social network that Berlin and Paris are working together in the framework of “new conditions” to create a united and stronger Europe.

According to Reuters, creating a union in the European Union is a challenging matter because Berlin and Paris have had differences in recent years in various areas, including military and trade and the imposition of tariffs on the import of electric cars.

On the other hand, the heads of both countries are in a fragile position in domestic politics. Macron has lost most of his power after losing this year’s parliamentary elections, and Schultz also fired his finance minister on Wednesday night, and the coalition government under his leadership collapsed.

According to Reuters, many European officials had expressed concern about Trump’s victory before Tuesday’s presidential election in the United States, as his first term in office has shaken transatlantic relations and he has sharply criticized NATO. Trump has also taken dual positions on the Ukraine war and climate issues.
