PNN – A British media outlet, referring to America’s inability to wage a ground war with Iran, emphasized that Washington needs one million troops.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, following US President Donald Trump’s repeated bragging and threats about a ground attack on Iran, Western and American media outlets consider Trump’s dream to be out of reach and emphasize that the United States does not have sufficient forces and equipment to enter into such a dangerous gamble.
In this context, an analysis in the British newspaper “The Independent” shows that sending a few thousand American soldiers to Iran will not be successful, and any ground war would require more than a million soldiers to confront at least 600,000 Iranian armed forces.
The British media emphasized: The United States’ sending only a few thousand troops to Iran is insufficient and dangerous, and is only an empty illusion.
The newspaper noted that US President Donald Trump is considering sending 10,000 additional troops to join around 3,000 paratroopers and 5,000 US Marines to carry out ground strikes against Iran, a country of 90 million people.
The analysis explained that this number is far below the required number of troops and even lower than the number of troops sent to fight in Helmand, southern Afghanistan, where 35,000 soldiers were unable to secure an area 28 times smaller than Iran.
On the other hand, Sir Nick Burton, an American veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, estimated that the US and its allies would need hundreds of thousands of troops, while former NATO generals believed that more than a million troops might be necessary for the “success” of any ground operation.
The newspaper’s analysis noted that Iran has at least 600,000 troops in its ground forces, including the Revolutionary Guard, army and Basij forces, all of which are ready to drag the United States into something like a “second Iraq war,” which would make Trump’s deployment of ground troops pointless and put more American soldiers at risk.
