The International Criminal Court issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of War Yoav Gallant a few minutes ago.
According to the report, the reason for issuing the arrest warrants for these individuals is that they committed war crimes in Gaza. The International Criminal Court announced that there are reasonable grounds to believe that these two individuals committed war crimes.
The court emphasized that it is not necessary whether Tel Aviv accepts the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court or not. Netanyahu and Gallant oversaw attacks on civilians in Gaza. The announcement of their arrest warrants is in the interest of the victims.
The International Criminal Court added that the war crimes of Netanyahu and Gallant include the use of starvation as a weapon of war and murder and other inhumane acts.
In this regard, Norway’s Foreign Minister Spin Barth Eide said: The International Criminal Court must fulfill its duties wisely. I am confident that the court will handle this case by the highest fair trial standards.
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmö Stengaard also stated: Stockholm and the European Union support the important work of the International Court of Justice and protect the independence and integrity of its decision-making. Swedish law enforcement authorities ultimately decide to arrest individuals under the international court’s warrant.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó reacted to the ruling on his page on the X social network (formerly Twitter): “The ruling of the International Court of Justice is shameful and ridiculous. We condemn this decision.”
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, although he called the ruling ridiculous, said the country’s Foreign Ministry said Vienna, as a party to the Rome Statute, was obliged to execute the ICC’s arrest warrant.
The Swiss prosecutor’s office also announced that the country is committed to implementing the orders of the International Criminal Court under the Rome Statute and that Netanyahu and Gallant will be arrested if they enter Swiss territory.
