Ali Naima, a member of the Iraqi Parliament’s Security Commission, warned about the consequences of the continued US occupation under the pretext of diplomatic presence in the US embassy. He stated that the presence of embassies and diplomatic consulates in Iraq and other countries around the world is governed by an international agreement that specifies the authorities and operational mechanisms, which essentially include considering common interests and non-interference in internal affairs. He added that the US embassy is a military base with 3,000 soldiers in the center of Baghdad, which is a clear violation of international treaties, and it cannot be accepted for this embassy to be turned into a military base while claiming to be a diplomatic mission.
