The latest position of the Syrian Foreign Minister on relations with Iran and Russia.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said: “We inherited a destroyed economic system, which was subject to sanctions imposed on Syria due to a failed regime. With the collapse of this regime, sanctions must be lifted, as these sanctions hurt the Syrian people.”
Stressing the need to lift these sanctions, he spoke of the efforts made with Arab countries and the international community to achieve this goal, as well as to convince the United States and the European Union to lift these sanctions.
He continued by pointing out that the security situation in Syria is good and said that creating an army requires sufficient time.
Al-Shaibani stated: “The next government in March will represent all segments of the Syrian people. We want to gain the trust of the Syrian people in the new Syrian government.”
The Syrian Foreign Minister continued: “Our relations with Jordan are distinct because we have ended the threats that existed before.”
The Syrian Foreign Minister indicated that he had received an official invitation to visit Iraq and said: “I will travel to Baghdad soon.”
Regarding relations with Russia and Iran, he also claimed that any relationship based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs will be respected. The past legacy must be corrected and the Syrian people must feel respect for the relationship with Russia and Iran. Positive messages have been received about relations with Iran and Russia, but we want to turn it into a clear policy that the Syrian people can be assured of.
Regarding Lebanon, the Syrian Foreign Minister stated: We will no longer tolerate the bad relationship with Lebanon that was caused by the Assad regime and we look at Lebanon as a neighboring country, we respect its sovereignty and we do not interfere in its affairs!
