The Lebanese government is at a crucial crossroads.
The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported on Tuesday’s fateful meeting of the Lebanese government on the issue of weapons of resistance, based on the prioritization plan presented by Lebanon itself and the prioritization plan presented by the United States, and wrote: “Lebanon is at a fateful moment in its political history today. Today’s cabinet meeting, which is scheduled to be held at the Presidential Palace in the Baabda area, could be considered the most challenging meeting regarding the issue of national sovereignty, especially since those in power have clearly shown their complete submission to the demands and foreign mandate from the United States and Saudi Arabia, which only serve the interests of Israel. Meanwhile, contacts have increased in an attempt to create compromise and save formulas to prevent Lebanon from plunging into complete chaos. Meanwhile, disagreements over whether the plan presented by the US envoy Thomas Barak or the plan presented by Lebanon itself should be considered first, and which one should take priority, remain.
The question was raised after Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received the official and final US proposal in response to the Lebanese proposal on Friday evening. The Americans did not consider their proposal “modifiable or negotiable, so either it must be accepted by Lebanon or Lebanon must bear the responsibility for not accepting it.”
