The new American resolution in the Security Council to satisfy Israel’s warlike tendencies

PNN – The United States has proposed a new draft resolution for a vote in the Security Council, which aims to satisfy Israel’s bellicose tendencies while preserving Washington’s image.

According to the International group of Pakistan News Network, after threatening to veto Algeria’s UN Security Council resolution on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the United States has proposed a new draft that seeks to satisfy Israel’s belligerent tendencies while preserving Washington’s image.

American media have reported that the new resolution proposed by the United States includes clauses in line with the recent telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “support a temporary ceasefire in Gaza as soon as practical”.

During the 137 days that have passed since the war in Gaza, the United States of America, repeating Israel’s narratives, has used its veto right in the Security Council as a permanent member of this council to establish any kind of ceasefire, including humanitarian ceasefires.

This position has repeatedly isolated America in the Security Council, although England has sometimes supported this country.

In the new draft, the United States called for “the removal of all obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid” and said that “all parties to the conflict must cooperate with the UN humanitarian and construction coordinator for the uninterrupted delivery of aid.”

The draft also rejects the creation of any buffer zone in Gaza and rejects the requests of some Israeli ministers to relocate Gaza residents from some areas of the strip. The alleged opposition to Israel’s operation in Rafah is among other clauses of the draft resolution.

In this resolution, referring to Israel’s intention to attack Rafah by ground, it is stated: “Under the current conditions, carrying out a large-scale ground attack on Rafah will cause more damage to civilians and their migration to different areas, including possibly to neighboring countries.”

Critics say that the tone of the resolution proposed by the US makes it practically ineffective, and that this draft is, on the one hand, to neutralize the resolution proposed by Algeria, and on the other hand, it is a kind of staging and show to instill support for the people of Gaza. In particular, the wording of the ceasefire support “whenever practicable” makes it open to interpretation.

It is not yet clear that the US resolution has enough support among the 15 members of the Security Council. It is also unclear whether Washington will force the other parties to vote on it.
