Roman Goffman, the new head of Mossad, is an officer in the Israeli army with the rank of major general who served in the navy and has served as the military secretary to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu since May 16, 2024.
He joined the Israeli army in 1995 and served in the armored division, in the 53rd Battalion of the 188th Armored Brigade. He completed basic training, tank command, and then officer training, serving as a tank platoon commander in the 71st Battalion and participating in battles in southern Lebanon.
Goffman later served as deputy company commander and then company commander in the 71st Battalion. Goffman commanded operations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank during the Second Palestinian Intifada and Operation Defensive Shield. He then served as deputy training battalion commander in Brigade 4600 and then as operations officer.
