The new line of the US Congress to punish pro-Gaza students.
After the suspension and arrest of more than 100 pro-Palestinian protesters at New York’s Columbia University, student protests have spread throughout the United States, and despite the peaceful nature of the protests, now the American authorities are trying to intensify pressure on students by using other means to prevent support protests. They are from Gaza.
Mike Johnson, the Republican Speaker of the US House of Representatives, called for putting pressure on the country’s universities to prevent the continuation of the protests in support of Gaza.
The American publication Axios reported on Saturday that the president of the US Congress announced that there are legal ways to increase pressure on university officials, and for example, removing tax exemptions and canceling student visas should be among the possible options to deal with the protesters.
This American official claimed that foreign students who “sympathize with groups like Hamas have no right to be in America.”
It should be noted that the pro-Palestinian students at Columbia University at the beginning of their protest demanded the transparency of the university’s budget and not receive money or invest in projects related to the Zionist regime. They have also called for amnesty for other students or faculty who have faced fines, suspensions, or expulsions for their protests in recent months.
