The new Speaker of the US House of Representatives began his tenure by expressing support for Israel.
According to Hill’s website, this four-page resolution was approved on Wednesday local time with 412 votes in favor against 10 against.
In this resolution, it is stated that the House of Representatives “stands by Israel” and while “condemning Hamas” demands that this resistance group “immediately stop its attacks, release all the living hostages and return the bodies of the dead hostages.”
In the last three weeks, the House of Representatives was unable to make an executive resolution due to the lack of a permanent chairman.
In his speech after being elected as the new speaker of this parliament, Johnson said: The country needs a strong leadership of this institution and we should not waver.
He added: Our great ally in the Middle East is under attack. The first bill that I am going to bring to the floor of the parliament is in support of our dear friend Israel. This should be done sooner.
Johnson is a representative of the state of Louisiana and an ally of President Donald Trump, who was elected on Wednesday to replace the ousted speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.
58-year-old McCarthy was removed from the presidency of the House of Representatives with 216 positive votes against 210 negative votes in an unprecedented action in the history of the United States.
Hard-line Republicans and Trump supporters were not happy with McCarthy’s performance due to McCarthy’s deal with the Biden administration to raise the debt ceiling and pass a short-term budget.
