The new US draft resolution is another license to kill Palestinians

The new US draft resolution is another license to kill Palestinians.

According to Itartas, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasiliy Nebenzia, announced that Russia is asking the United Nations Security Council not to support the draft of the new American resolution on the Middle East because this document is nothing but a license to kill Palestinian civilians.

He said: “The new draft of the Security Council resolution on Gaza, proposed by the United States, does not contain a request for a ceasefire, and its purpose is to extend the umbrella of UN support to Israel’s operations in this area. This is by no means an alternative draft, but another authorization to kill Palestinian civilians, and the US is determined to give this authorization to Israel through the Security Council. We ask the members of the council not to support this destructive effort.”

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations said, “Washington, by obstructing international efforts to stop the violence in Gaza, is fully responsible for the unprecedented number of civilian victims of this escalation, whose number has reached 30,000 so far.” This is the price of America’s veto in the UN Security Council.”

Nebenzia said: An immediate ceasefire and Israel’s compliance with international humanitarian laws is the only and most vital way to prevent widespread famine in Gaza, but the US has blocked all these efforts by the council to adopt such a decision by using the veto four times. With tens of thousands dead and starving in Gaza, the US delegation continues to say a ceasefire is dangerous because it undermines America’s fragile diplomacy on the ground.

On February 20, the United States once again prevented the adoption of a draft resolution of the Security Council that called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. 13 out of 15 members of the Security Council, including Russia and China, voted in favor of the document presented by Algeria. Britain abstained and the United States vetoed the resolution. Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations said that the United Nations Security Council should consider sanctions against countries that prevent humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.

“The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs note, based on Security Council Resolution 2417 (adopted in 2018 condemning the use of starvation against civilians as a method of warfare), has given the UN Security Council no option but to pursue a ceasefire for Creating the necessary conditions for the work of humanitarian and medical personnel does not leave. It should also not be forgotten that based on the provisions of the above resolution, the Security Council has the right to consider sanctions against those who prevent the needy from accessing humanitarian aid. We believe that now is the time to activate this provision.”
