The Paris meeting on the future of Ukraine ended without a result/Europe’s hope for America’s guarantee

PNN – The emergency meeting of European leaders in Paris to discuss the future of the war in Ukraine ended without results, while the European officials, worried about the talks between the US and Russia in Riyadh, are eyeing the role of Washington to ensure peace in Ukraine.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, after the three-hour meeting that was held in the Elysee Palace with the presence of the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands and the Secretary General of NATO, said: America’s security guarantee is the only way to prevent Russia from attacking Ukraine again.

He added: Europe must play its role and I am ready to send British forces to Ukraine along with other countries if a stable agreement is reached. But this is not possible without American support.

The British Prime Minister announced his trip to Washington next week to discuss the details of this plan with US President Donald Trump.

The Paris meeting was held in a situation where the US and Russia are going to discuss the future of the Ukrainian war in Riyadh without the presence of European and Ukrainian officials.

The Kremlin had previously confirmed that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Putin’s top adviser Yuri Ushakov had traveled to Saudi Arabia for talks with US representatives.

At the Paris meeting, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk criticized America’s move to negotiate directly with Russia and said: Everyone in this meeting was aware that transatlantic relations and NATO alliance have entered a new phase. If the future of Ukraine and European security is to be decided, it must be done in the presence of European representatives, not in their absence.

Disagreement among European leaders

One of the focal points of the discussion at the Paris meeting was the possibility of sending a European peacekeeping force to Ukraine in case of a ceasefire; an issue that faced serious differences of opinion.

German Chancellor Olaf Schultz, while criticizing the proposal of this issue in the current situation, said: We are still in the middle of a brutal war that Russia is mercilessly waging. It is premature and irresponsible to talk about the peacekeeping force at this stage.

He also called for an increase in the European defense budget by changing the financial rules of the European Union.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Denmark claimed: Russia is a threat to the whole of Europe and all European countries should prepare to deal with this threat by increasing their defense spending.

According to analysts, Europe’s effort to form a peacekeeping force will be futile without American military and air support.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated: Even if Europe could form a 30,000-strong force, it would be vulnerable without the air support of NATO, which is dependent on the United States.

The British government has announced that it is ready to participate in the form of a peacekeeping force in Ukraine.

However, military experts, pointing to the structural weakness of the army, have expressed doubts about the power of England.
