The perpetrator of the attack on the former Queen of England sentenced to 9 years.

The perpetrator of the attack on the former Queen of England was sentenced to 9 years in prison.

The court verdict states that the attacker not only intended to harm the former Queen of England, but also wanted to kill her. He was sentenced to 9 years in prison based on the treason law approved in 1842.

Under the Treason Act, it is a crime to attack a royal official or to possess a weapon in their presence with intent to do harm.

Jaswant Singh Chail, 21, was arrested on Christmas 2021 with a slingshot at Windsor Castle. It is said that he did this during a conversation with artificial intelligence and was inspired by the story of Star Wars.

Chail is currently hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital according to the Mental Health Act, but after the treatment period is over, he will be transferred to the detention center. When the police officers arrested him, he confessed his intention to assassinate Elizabeth.

In a video he released minutes before entering the royal palace grounds, Chail said his actions were “revenge” for those who died in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919; When British soldiers opened fire on thousands of people who had gathered in the Indian city of Amritsar. This event is one of the bloodiest events of the colonial era of the British Empire on the Indian subcontinent.

Chail, who is a Sikh from India, said in the same video that his actions were “for those who were killed, humiliated, and discriminated against because of their race”.

According to the court order, his imprisonment may be extended for another 5 years. He is the first person to be convicted of treason in the past 4 decades in England.

In 1981, Marcus Sargent was sentenced to five years in prison for firing practice bullets at the Queen under the Treason Act.
