Pak Sahafat – The president of Chile stated that it is impossible to remain silent against the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands, and demanded the end of the illegal sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies against Venezuela and Cuba.
According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report on Thursday, quoted by El Pais newspaper, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, emphasized during his speech at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York: We must be clear that when sanctions are applied unilaterally, they do not help to achieve a solution. For example, the sanctions on Venezuela, today, from our point of view, do not help to improve the living conditions of the people of this country.
He added: “It is necessary for the United States to lift the sanctions it currently imposes on Caracas” in order to guarantee democracy in Venezuela.
In another part of his speech, he stated: We have to say that the same thing about the sanctions that have been imposed against Cuba for a long time also bothers us. Declaring that Cuba is a country that promotes terrorism is not only false, but it violates our (rights) and therefore we ask the United States to follow the policy of the administration of Barack Obama (former President of the United States of America) at that time and to remove Cuba from this list.
The president of Chile described the removal of the island from the list of countries that support terrorism by the administration of US President Joe Biden as a “necessary” action.
He also mentioned the occupation of the Palestinian lands by the Zionist regime and said: We cannot be silent when we see the illegal occupation and the denial of the possibility of forming a Palestinian state. By supporting the policy of one land and two states in occupied Palestine, we demand respect for international laws.
In his speech, Borik mentioned the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coup against the socialist government of Salvador Allende on September 11, 1973, and emphasized the evidence that Nixon, the then US president, “conspired from the beginning”.
Borik noted that among the lessons learned from this tragedy, the main lesson was that “problems of democracy must always be solved by more democracy, and a coup is never inevitable, democracy always offers alternatives.” He also emphasized that human rights “do not have a political color and must be promoted and defended in all times and places”.
