The United Nations is on its way to becoming an ineffective institution.

SRF Switzerland addressed the bleak future of the UN, especially under the policies of the US government, in an article and wrote: During the UN General Assembly, incidents such as the escalator incident and the teleprompter incident occurred, and both devices failed during the presence of US President Donald Trump at the UN. For Trump, these incidents were a sign of the failure of the world organization.

But it later became clear that the UN was not responsible for either of these two incidents, and a cameraman from Trump’s team pressed the emergency stop button on the escalator; the video player was also disabled by his own people during Trump’s speech.

Nevertheless, the impression that there are problems at the UN is valid. The organization is losing its relevance and ability to act and seems to be damaged. The situation is almost tangible. In the meantime, the Americans are largely responsible for creating such a situation.

During the week of the UN summit, it became clear that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s plan, dubbed “UN 80,” looked more like a hasty, lawnmower-style austerity program than a visionary reform concept.

But an organization with 193 member states cannot be organized like a private company. The idea that the UN could accomplish the same amount of work with a much smaller budget is a false dream.
