The unprecedented solidarity of Lebanese political parties with Hezbollah.

The unprecedented solidarity of Lebanese political parties with Hezbollah.

The Al-Aqsa storm operation brought the equations of the troubled region of the Middle East into a new phase. From the first hours of the war, Lebanon’s Hezbollah started a limited and controlled conflict on the borders of the northern front with Israel in order to engage part of the fighting power of the Zionist regime, support the oppressed people of Gaza and force this regime to accept a ceasefire. Now, after almost a year of the war, the Zionist regime has turned its attention to the northern borders and increased the number of its soldiers on the border with Lebanon. Now more than ever, there is a possibility of an increase in the level of conflicts and a full-scale war between the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Zionist regime.

The fact is that the majority of political parties and currents in Lebanon are in a complete alliance with the resistance axis, despite the differences in political opinions and views with Hezbollah, and with their supportive approach, both in the domestic space and against the Zionist regime, Hezbollah are located. In this note, we intend to examine the approach of various political parties and currents in Lebanon in the last year.

Amal Movement; Hezbollah’s strategic ally

As one of the two largest Shia parties in Lebanon, the Amal movement, while emphasizing the preservation of national unity, has adopted a position of full support for Hezbollah during the last year. As the leader of this movement, who is also the head of the Lebanese Parliament, “Nabieh Bari” has repeatedly emphasized the necessity of Lebanon’s resistance against the aggression of the Zionist regime during the past year. In the meeting he had with Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in June, he stated that “Lebanon could not remain silent in the face of the killing of the people of Gaza, therefore the Lebanese resistance entered the field to support the people of Gaza.” All in all, these positions show the strategic alliance between Hezbollah and the Amal Movement as two deeply rooted Shiite movements in Lebanon.

Sunni and Druze parties, along with Hezbollah

The Sunnis in Lebanon also stand by the resistance against the Zionist regime despite differences of opinion with Hezbollah on various issues. Even though people like “Saad Hariri” retired from politics a long time ago and did not have much position in the Lebanese environment, but due to the prevailing atmosphere among Lebanese Sunnis, the figures close to him considered the Zionist regime to be the cause of the crisis in the region and They sided with Hezbollah in supporting the oppressed people of Palestine. Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah’s statement that Lebanon’s Hezbollah has entered the field in support of the oppressed people of Gaza and to put pressure on the Zionist regime to accept a ceasefire, had a positive response in the Sunni community, and for this reason, the parties that Traditionally, they had a critical approach towards Hezbollah, during the current war, they did not raise their criticisms in order to maintain solidarity.

For example, “Najib Mikati”, the Prime Minister of Lebanon, is among the personalities who are defined as critics of Hezbollah in the political structure of Lebanon, but he has not taken any critical position towards Hezbollah during this one year. While stressing the need to stop the Zionist attacks on Lebanon, Mikati repeatedly asked the international community to prevent Israeli aggression. He canceled his trip to New York due to the critical situation in South Lebanon. In general, it should be said that the atmosphere of the Sunni movement in Lebanon is an anti-Israeli atmosphere, and due to the crimes of the Zionists, many differences of opinion have been removed, and, in general, everyone supports Hezbollah.

The Druze of Lebanon has also been on the side of the axis of resistance during the past year. “Walid Jumblatt”, the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party of Lebanon, despite his party being defined in the Lebanese political environment against Hezbollah, over the past year, has declared clear positions supporting the resistance axis. While stressing the necessity of stopping and not expanding the war, he has stated that he stands by Hezbollah and the axis of resistance against the Zionist enemy. Also, his position regarding the “Majdal Al-Shams” incident earned him the gratitude of Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, the Secretary General of Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Companionship of Lebanese Christians with the resistance

The Christian party of the Azad National Movement, led by “Jabran Basil”, despite being a critic of Hezbollah in the early months of the war and challenging the way Hezbollah entered the war, has taken clear positions against the Zionist regime in the last few months and openly He mentioned that if Israel attacks Lebanon, he will unite with other groups against this regime. While condemning pager explosions and cyber attacks on Lebanon, this party announced that it stands by the resistance and any group that confronts Israel, and by attending the house of Ali Ammar, the representative of Hezbollah in the Lebanese Parliament, his son’s martyrdom in the terrorist operation of pager explosions. He offered his condolences.

Among the Christians, only two groups, “Al-Quwat al-Lebananiyya” led by Samir Geagea, and the conservative Kataeb party led by Sami Jameel criticize Hezbollah. These two parties believed that Hezbollah should not have entered the war in support of Hamas. Most of the criticism of Hezbollah in Lebanon comes from these groups, and these two groups do not name the Zionist regime as the cause of the current situation. These currents define their identity in opposition to Hezbollah and the axis of resistance. Of course, due to the limited voice of these currents, their voice cannot be considered as the opinion of the Lebanese Christian community.
