The US has ended support for the reconstruction of the Ukrainian electricity grid

PNN – American NBC News wrote in a report: The US Department of State terminated the program of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which provided hundreds of millions of dollars for the reconstruction of Ukraine’s damaged power grid.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the NBC report states: According to two USAID officials who work on the agency’s operational team in Ukraine, the US action will severely weaken the Ukrainian government’s ability to negotiate a ceasefire and send a message to Russia that the US no longer cares about Kiev and its previous investments.

According to the NBC report, the US Agency for International Development, in addition to ending the energy security project in Ukraine, will also significantly reduce the number of employees of its operational team in this country.

This report adds: Before the recent actions of the US President Donald Trump’s administration to suspend the financial aid of the United States Agency for International Development for 90 days, 64 of the agency’s employees and contractors were working in Ukraine, but from now on, only eight of these personnel will remain in Ukraine.

According to this report, reducing the presence of USAID staff in Ukraine will bring risks to the country’s energy security in the winter season because Ukraine is still facing more missile threats from Russia.

Europe’s storm of criticism and London’s meaningful silence

According to the NBC report, the USAID office for Europe and Eurasia, which is responsible for overseeing the Ukraine operation, previously had 115 employees based in Washington, but according to agency officials, their number is also to be reduced to 29.

French President Emmanuel Macron quipped in his words that were echoed in the media: We all know from the beginning who is the aggressor: Russia and who is the victim: Ukraine. We made the right decision three years ago to support Ukraine and sanction Russia, and we must continue on this path.

German Chancellor Olaf Schultz also emphasized: No one wants peace more than Ukrainians. We are working on a common path for a lasting and just peace. Ukraine can count on the help of Germany and Europe.

Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, also emphasized the EU’s support for Ukraine and said to Zelensky: With your dignity, you showed the courage of the Ukrainian people.

These developments reflect growing tensions in transatlantic relations and European concerns about a change in US approach to the Ukraine war. European leaders will meet in London on Sunday to discuss the future of the war in Ukraine and the security of this continent.

In the meantime, London’s meaningful silence and the non-reaction of Starmer’s government officials have raised questions about the British position towards this diplomatic gap. Will Britain finally join the wave of support for Ukraine, or will it continue to remain silent?
