The withdrawal of the first Israeli army group from southern Lebanon has begun.
The United States announced on Wednesday that the Israeli army had carried out the first withdrawal of its forces from an area in southern Lebanon, with Lebanese army forces replacing Israeli forces in the area, according to the AFP news agency.
According to the report, the move was in line with the implementation of the Washington-Paris agreement to stop the war between Israel and Hezbollah.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement that General Eric Korella, commander of the force, was present at the scene of the operation and witnessed the first phase of the Israeli army’s withdrawal and the replacement of the Lebanese armed forces in the Khayam region of Lebanon.
He considered the move an important step towards achieving a permanent ceasefire that will pave the way for further progress.
According to the CENTCOM statement, General Korella met in Beirut with General Joseph Aoun, commander of the Lebanese army, and discussed the security situation in Syria, its impact on regional stability, and ways to strengthen military cooperation between the Lebanese army and the US Central Command.
