“There is no other land”: A story of Palestinian struggles that went global

PNN – The Palestinian film “There Is No Other Land,” which had been prevented from being broadcast due to global politics, won the 2025 Oscar for Best Documentary at the Berlin Film Festival, provoking the anger of the Israeli Minister of Culture.

The vast scale of the Zionist regime’s crimes against the people of Gaza led to a flood of protests in support of Palestine and condemnation of the Zionist regime around the world, especially in Western countries. More than 100,000 people protested in London on several occasions and condemned the Zionist regime. France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, and the Netherlands also witnessed widespread protests in support of Palestine. The American cities of Washington, D.C., New York, and Chicago also held protests in support of the Palestinian people, in support of the people of Gaza, and in condemnation of the Zionists. All of these protests took place while the governments of the aforementioned countries explicitly declared holding gatherings and marches in support of the Palestinian people illegal and prohibited.

The Palestinian film “There is No Other Land” by Basil Al-Adra, Yuval Abraham, Hamdan Bilal and Rachel Zur, which narrates the Palestinian struggle to protect their land against the destructive actions of the Zionist regime forces, once again drew the world’s attention to the Palestinian issue by winning the Oscar for Best Documentary at the Berlin Film Festival.

Global politics prevented the broadcast of “There Is No Other Land”

“There Is No Other Land,” which took five years to produce and was prevented from being released due to global politics, deals with Bassel’s struggle to preserve his village in the Yazd area of Hebron, a village under constant attack by the Zionist occupiers in the West Bank.

Upon receiving the award, Bassel said: I am here to celebrate receiving this award, but I cannot! Because tens of thousands of people from my country are being killed and massacred in Gaza.

The Palestinian director further called on the German government to respect the demands of the United Nations and stop sending weapons to the Zionist regime.

Australian actor supports Palestine at Oscars

Renowned American documentary filmmaker Ben Russell, who wore a Palestinian shawl while accepting his award, along with several other artists, expressed their support for Palestine. A protest in support of Palestine also took place outside the Dolby Theater at the 2025 Oscars.

Australian actor Guy Pearce, who caused a stir last year with a Palestinian flag brooch at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, wore a small white enamel dove at the 2025 Oscars, with the following inscription on his dress: “‘Free Palestine,'” he read a statement on the red carpet.

Pierce wrote in an email to CNN: As the Palestinian people are already suffering great psychological trauma and losses due to Netanyahu’s vengeful regime; it is unfortunate that a reputable publication like VF would attempt to remove the support that I or anyone else would like to offer.

The Palestinian enamel dove brooch, which Guy Pearce also wore on his clothes, has become a popular tool for supporting Palestine, symbolizing peace and expressing solidarity with the thousands of civilians in Gaza who have been bombed by the Zionists.

Israeli Culture Minister Furious Over Palestinian Documentary Winning Oscar

Channel 14 quoted the Israeli Minister of Culture as saying: The Oscar-winning film “There Is No Other Land” is a distorted narrative of Israel. He added: The film’s Oscar win is a sad moment for the world of cinema. The Israeli minister also claimed that the film’s creators, instead of showing the real complexities, have promoted narratives that tarnish the image of the Zionist regime.

Cinema: The most important cultural symbol of Palestine and a tool for raising global awareness
