Thousands of angry French workers demand Macron’s resignation.
According to Russia Today, at the same time as the French parliament voted no confidence in Prime Minister Michel Barnier and the French government collapsed, thousands of public service workers took to the streets of Paris to demand higher wages and better working conditions.
Last Wednesday, the French National Assembly voted by an absolute majority to vote no confidence in the country’s cabinet. The deputies of the French National Assembly voted no confidence in Prime Minister Michel Barnier with an absolute majority of 331 votes.
Both the right and left wing of France announced that the prime minister had failed to listen to their demands regarding next year’s budget. Before the French National Assembly vote, Barnier gave a speech to his country’s representatives and said: A vote of no confidence in him will not solve the country’s financial problems.
Former French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal also told members of his country’s National Assembly who were planning to dismiss the government that such a move would cause instability in the country.
The French parliament has passed a no-confidence vote on the prime minister after he approved a controversial social security budget without a vote. Barnier’s decision to pass the budget without a vote has angered both right-wing and left-wing parties in France.
Barnier, a former EU Brexit negotiator, was appointed prime minister by personal decree by French President Emmanuel Macron in September after a snap election in July that left parliament suspended. The 73-year-old has been the leader of France’s minority government since then.
Barnier said in the budget bill that tax increases worth $62.8 billion would boost revenue and cuts in government spending worth about $42 billion would help reduce the government’s deficit.
