TIKA in Algeria; Türkiye’s soft war in North Africa.

TIKA in Algeria: Türkiye’s soft war in North Africa.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has implemented projects in the fields of agriculture, health, education, social rehabilitation and cultural heritage preservation in Algeria, ostensibly designed for the country’s social development, but at the same time acting as a tool for Turkey’s soft influence and creating a positive image of the country in Algerian public opinion.

The importance of Algeria for Turkish foreign policy

Algeria is of particular importance to Ankara due to its strategic location in North Africa and historical ties with Turkey since the Ottoman period. The country serves as a gateway for expanding Turkey’s influence in Africa and the Arab world.

Through development projects, TIKA seeks to strengthen Turkey’s position against regional and trans-regional rivals and to establish lasting cultural and economic ties with Algeria. Entering Algeria is a deepening of a soft war between Turkey and countries such as France, China, Russia, and Arab countries.
