Time’s narrative of the discredit of the West.

Time’s narrative of the West’s double standard towards Gaza and Ukraine discredits the region in the international community.

At the beginning of its report, the English magazine Time points out that although the heads of Western countries condemned Hamas after the October 7 operation, this did not cause a rift between them and the countries of the southern world, because all of them Zaman agreed to a large extent in this regard. But gradually, the impression was formed that many Western politicians, especially the Americans, are trying to consider this operation as a “blank check” for Israel to defend itself, especially since the number of casualties in Gaza is currently much higher than the total number of casualties. The previous wars were between Hamas and Israel.

This publication continued: “The comparison of Ukraine with Israel has angered many in the Global South, a comparison that was first made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who claimed, “This operation reminds me of the early days of Moscow’s all-out war against Kyiv. “Zelensky asked all the leaders of the West to go to meet the leaders of Tel Aviv. The analogy of the mistake that others, including the President of the United States Biden, had made, but many in the global south rejected it. Russia attacked Ukraine it but in the October 7 operation of Hamas, it is the Palestinians who have been living under Israeli occupation for decades.”

According to this report, today the number of civilian casualties in Gaza is increasing while Bolivia cut off its relations with Israel, and at the same time Colombia and Chile recalled their ambassadors from Tel Aviv. During his visit to America last week, the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, said that the Tel Aviv government’s response to the Hamas operation “deserves our strongest condemnation”.

According to this report, the US decision to veto the October 18 Security Council resolution, which called for a humanitarian pause, also angered the southern countries. An African diplomat told Reuters in this regard: “They lost their credibility with this veto. What is good for Ukraine is not good for Palestine. This veto told us that the lives of Ukrainians are more valuable than the lives of Palestinians.”

An Arab diplomat also said: “We cannot ask the principles of the UN Charter to protect Ukraine and ignore it for Palestine.”

Even some senior Western officials considered this incident in the United Nations a double standard. “Whatever we say about Ukraine should be applied to Gaza,” a G7 diplomat told the Financial Times.

When Egypt convened the Cairo Peace Conference on October 21 to discuss ways to de-escalate tensions in Gaza, some Arab leaders criticized Russia for violating humanitarian law. got it, but not Israel.”

Addressing the adoption of a double standard policy by the West towards Palestine and Ukraine, The Times predicted that the world will face more crises in the future because such is the nature of international affairs. In the post-World War II era, the American government met the need for a world order based on international law.

At the end of its report, Time wrote, referring to the possibility of not realizing a just order in the world based on international law: “Otherwise, we can consider the words of that diplomat of the Group of 7 as saying, “The West is definitely in the fight against the global south. It’s failed,” so forget the rules, forget the world order. Because they (the South) will never listen to the West again.”
