Times reports on increased arrests in the UK due to cyber activity.
According to Russia Today, The Times newspaper, in a report referring to the high number of arrests in the UK due to online activities, wrote that 12,000 people are arrested in the country annually for publishing threatening or offensive messages or content.
According to published statistics, the British police arrest 12,000 people annually under the Communications and Telecommunications Act.
According to statistics, in 2023 alone, 37 police units arrested 12,183 people, equivalent to about 33 people per day. According to the Times, this figure represents a 58% increase compared to 2019; that year, only 7,734 arrests related to this issue were recorded.
The publication of these statistics has led to protests, and groups supporting freedoms have accused the British authorities of excessive surveillance of the Internet for some time.
The Times cited a case as an example in which the parents of a child were arrested in front of their child by six police officers after expressing concerns about the recruitment process at their child’s school in a “private” WhatsApp group!
