Tommy Bruce’s account of America’s political and technical negotiators in the new era.
According to Russia Today, sources affiliated with the US State Department announced that Steve Whittaker will participate in the Oman talks with Iran.
US State Department spokesman Tommy Bruce announced that Whittaker will travel to the Sultanate of Oman to attend the new round of Iran-US talks.
According to the US State Department spokesperson, the technical talks will be led by Michael Anton, the US State Department’s director of policy planning.
After the second round of Rome talks late last week, the two sides agreed to continue the talks.
Hours earlier, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai announced in a conversation with reporters that Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi will leave for Muscat on Friday evening at the head of a diplomatic and technical-expert delegation to hold indirect talks with the US.
Referring to the understanding between the two sides to hold a technical-expert meeting simultaneously with the presence of senior negotiators from the two countries, Baghaei said: “Based on the planning made by the Omani host and the agreement between Iran and the United States, expert meetings and indirect talks between our country’s Foreign Minister and the US President’s special representative will be held on Saturday.”
The Foreign Ministry spokesman considered progress in the negotiations to require the other side to show goodwill, seriousness, and realism, and emphasized that the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, taking into account previous records and experiences, will adjust each of its steps according to the other side’s behavior and will spare no effort to uphold the legitimate rights and interests of the Iranian people.
