Trump administration cuts another $450 million in funding to Harvard.
The Trump administration announced on Tuesday that eight U.S. federal agencies have cut another $450 million in funding to Harvard University, following the administration’s decision last week to cut $2.2 billion in federal funding to the university.
The U.S. government’s Task Force on Combating Antisemitism said in a joint statement that Harvard no longer deserves public funding due to its “failure to address widespread racial discrimination and anti-Semitic practices on campus.”
“There is a dark problem on Harvard’s campus, and by prioritizing compromise over accountability, the institution’s leaders have lost the credibility of receiving taxpayer support,” the statement said.
The private university, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is currently pursuing a lawsuit against the federal government’s decision to cut off funding.
The university’s president has previously said that the Trump administration has sought “unlawful interference” in the university’s internal affairs, including faculty hiring and curriculum.
The administration’s demands include overhauling the university’s governance structure, changing its admissions and hiring processes to ensure “ideological balance,” and ending some academic programs.
Last week, the U.S. Department of Education issued a notice to Harvard saying it would withhold billions of dollars in research funding and other support until the university complies with the administration’s demands.
