PNN – Joe Kent, the head of the US National Counterterrorism Center, resigned from his position on Tuesday in protest of war with Iran, declaring that Iran was not an immediate threat to the United States.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing Guardian, Kent, a right-wing political figure and Trump supporter, wrote in a resignation letter published on the X Network: “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war with Iran. Iran was not an immediate threat to our country, and it is clear that this war was started due to pressure from Israel and its powerful lobby in the United States.”

Kent, who worked under Tulsi Gabbard, is a former Special Forces officer with extensive combat experience. His wife, Shannon Kent, a cryptographer in the US Navy, was killed in a suicide attack in Manbij, Syria, in 2019.

However, in his letter, he praised the military policies of the first Trump administration, including the assassination of General Soleimani and the “defeat of ISIS,” and emphasized that the administration was trying to avoid getting caught up in “endless wars.”

However, he accused the president of straying from this approach under the influence of an influence campaign.

Kent wrote: At the beginning of this administration, senior Israeli officials and influential media figures in the United States launched a disinformation campaign that completely undermined the “America First” slogan and created a pro-war atmosphere for an attack on Iran.
