PNN – US President Donald Trump acknowledged that the tariffs have put him at risk politically but said he was determined to move forward nonetheless.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Bloomberg News, referring to Trump’s interview with the “News Nation” television network, wrote: The US president acknowledges that the extensive tariff program has put him at political risk, but at the same time he is in no hurry to calm investor anger or reach an agreement with countries on tariffs.
In response to the network’s host’s question, who asked him if he agreed that his tariff proposals had a perception problem, Trump said: Yes, but I’m an honest person and we have to save the country.

The US president went on to acknowledge that there is significant political risk to his tariff efforts and that if this perception of his policy does not change, the House of Representatives could lose its Republican majority in the 2026 midterm elections. But Trump went on to say that he is determined to continue on the path forward.
He also noted that while there is a “very good chance” of reaching an agreement with China, he added: We will do this deal on our own terms and it has to be fair.
On April 2, 2025, in a 48-minute speech, Trump announced a global 10% “base” tariff on all goods imported into the United States, on a day dubbed “Freedom Day.”
He also imposed a 25% tariff on all foreign-made cars imported into the United States. The United States targeted some countries with much steeper tariffs of up to 50%.
But a week later, on April 9, he announced: I will temporarily suspend the application of tariffs for 90 days, except for China, and reduce the reciprocal tariff to 10 percent during this period, which will be implemented quickly.
