Trump and Al-Julani meet in Riyadh.
According to Al-Mayadeen, the US President and Al-Julani met on the sidelines of a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit with Trump, which is scheduled to be held in Riyadh in a few minutes.
The meeting came after Trump announced that his country would lift sanctions on Syria.
The US President arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday during his visit to the Middle East, where he met with senior officials and signed a strategic economic partnership agreement.
Trump announced in Saudi Arabia that he intends to lift sanctions on Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, a move that he said would “give Syria a chance to be great again.”
The US President said in a speech at a Saudi investment forum on Tuesday local time that he decided after talking with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Trump said, “I will order the suspension of sanctions on Syria to give them a chance to be great.”
The US President added: “It is time to give Syria a chance… I hope the new Syrian government will maintain peace… My administration has begun initial steps to normalize relations between Syria and the US.”
The US President continued: US Secretary of State Mark Rubio will meet with the Syrian Foreign Minister. I will order the lifting of all sanctions against Syria so that this country has a chance to achieve glory.
Trump’s round trip, which will continue until May 16, includes visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, and Washington has stated that its goal is to strengthen strategic cooperation with the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf.
Previously, US media reported on Trump’s trip to the Persian Gulf countries, based on statements by current and former US officials and two Arab officials, that his goal is to return to the US with agreements and investment commitments worth one trillion dollars.
