Trump announces his conditions for not withdrawing from NATO.
According to Agence France-Presse, US President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday repeated his campaign promises to impose trade tariffs and mass deportations of immigrants and took a stand on his country’s membership in NATO.
The US President-elect said that the United States could (may) withdraw from NATO.
According to the news agency, Donald Trump repeated his previous threat to withdraw from NATO. This military alliance has been the cornerstone of European security since World War II and said that US allies are not spending enough on their defense.
He told the NBC television network in this regard: “They (the Europeans) are taking advantage of us on trade. It’s a shame for us. Second, we are defending them. I could have sent hundreds of millions of dollars to NATO. I said I’m not going to protect you unless you pay for it.”
Trump threatened to stay in NATO with the Europeans only if they paid their dues.
The US president-elect added that he would only stay in NATO if other member countries started paying their dues and agreed to renegotiate trade agreements that he believes are unfair to the US.
