Trump announces the possibility of lifting sanctions against Moscow.
According to Russia Today, US President Donald Trump has said that there is a possibility of lifting Washington’s sanctions against Moscow during the Ukrainian peace talks.
Asked whether lifting sanctions was part of the ongoing talks between Russia and the US, Trump said: “No, we have not lifted any sanctions on anyone. I think it will happen at some point, but there has been no agreement on lifting sanctions on anyone at this time.”
The US and Western countries have imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia since the start of the Ukrainian war in February 2022. Moscow has described these sanctions as illegal and has always demanded their lifting.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently said that Western countries should lift sanctions against Russia to find a lasting solution to the Ukrainian war. He said after high-level talks between Moscow and Washington that took place in Saudi Arabia last week that “all sides must make concessions” to end the Ukrainian war.
Trump’s statements come as the European Union has agreed to impose its 16th package of sanctions against Russia in recent days.
