Trump arrives in London for second state visit.
Trump was welcomed upon arrival by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and Viscount Hood, the King’s representative, before heading to the residence of the US ambassador in London. According to the announced schedule, he will meet with King Charles III of England at Windsor Castle tomorrow (Wednesday) and with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Chequers on Thursday. The Secretary of State and the US President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East will accompany Trump on this trip.
Meanwhile, a group of Trump opponents gathered in front of Windsor Castle to protest his presence in the UK. They demonstrated their opposition to the US President’s presence in the UK by carrying placards that read “We do not welcome Trump” and “Trump is a criminal, racist, liar, and loser” and chanting slogans against his policies.
Another large demonstration in London is scheduled for Wednesday. The Stop Trump Coalition, one of the main organizers of the protest, said in a statement: “Trump and his authoritarian policies have no place in the UK and the Prime Minister should not roll out the red carpet for him.” Protesters are describing Trump’s absence from London and his meeting with the Prime Minister outside the capital as a major victory and achievement for their campaign.
This is Trump’s second state visit to the UK as a US president. He previously visited London in 2019, a trip that was accompanied by thousands of protesters on the streets of the capital and other cities, and the “Trump Baby Balloon” became a symbol of those protests.
